Gabon
Gabon’s is set to swear in incumbent ruler Ali Bongo on Tuesday for a second seven-year term after he won disputed polls in August.
The presidency office announced of the inauguration ceremony days after Bongo’s election victory was validated by the constitutional court.
The country’s top court confirmed his victory on Saturday after dismissing a petition lodged by the opposition over claims of vote fraud.
Concern has been growing that the court ruling could prompt more of the unrest the country witnessed in the immediate aftermath of the election.
“Much is expected of him as he said that he is the president of youth, the president of the Gabonese, I wish that he brings something concrete for us, he brings a plus,” said Patrick a resident of Libreville.
“We will not let Mr Ali Bongo lead Gabon for 7 years. “We will ensure that Mr Ali Bongo leaves power,” said Persina another resident.
Earlier this month, opposition leader Jean Ping lodged an appeal calling for a recount after he narrowly lost the elections.
Ping has rejected the ruling and stated he won the elections.
